Clinical Trial Presented by Hospital for Special Surgery at AAOS: Essential amino acid supplementation associated with improved TKA recovery

As we were working with Slocum Foundation on a new study we were very pleased to learn that Hospital for Special Surgery MDs had replicated positive results with a study of their own. We are now in another study with Slocum, this 4th study will go deeper and look at changes to the muscle satellite cells.

Orthopedics Today featured a recent study by HSS hip & knee surgeons David J. Mayman, MD, and Seth A. Jerabek, MD, who investigated the effects of amino acid supplementation for patients undergoing a total knee replacement.

Findings indicated that patients who received amino acid prior to and after surgery performed better postoperatively.

“Supplementation of amino acid prior to and for the first 2 weeks after surgery is a safe and easy way to improve patient recovery after surgery. It should be considered as part of your perioperative management in total knee replacement,” said Dr. Mayman, who presented the study at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) this week.
